The Abaco Club Beach Experience

The Abaco Club is a world-class sporting club on the shore of Winding Bay in the Abaco island group of The Bahamas.

With its collection of upscale homes and cottages, guests and club members surround themselves in tropical luxury while enjoying the club’s vast inventory of recreational amenities, including a championship, 18-hole golf course, multicourt tennis center, full-service health and beauty spa, fishing and watersports, fine dining and more.

Abaco-Club---Couple-on-Beach-Winding-BayThe Abaco Club’s Beach Experience, Splendor in the Sand, is centered around the resort’s 2.5-mile, powder-soft sand beach, a majestic, winding oasis. A protective coral reef guards the entrance to the bay, along with the lovely Sugar Cay, so the warm and clear aquamarine sea is calm.

A stay at the Abaco Club includes unlimited access to a variety of beach toys: kayaks, HobieCat sailboats, paddleboards and Funcats – motorized floating chaise lounges (don’t forget to bring a drink!). Snorkelers can explore the waters and reefs around Sugar Cay and acquaint themselves with the resident sea turtles and a vast array of colorful undersea life. Or, if you’d just like to relax, just spend some time floating peacefully in the crystalline water, bathed in sunshine.

Ocean-View-AccommodationsClub members and guests can often be seen jogging and walking the beach in the morning: “touching the rock,” or making it all the way to the end of the beach, a nice five-mile journey. Afterwards, breakfast is available at Buster’s Beach Bar, a rustic, thatched-roof, open-air facility steps away from the gently lapping surf.

Of course, comfortable chaises and shady thatch umbrellas are readied for those who just want to relax and de-stress on the beach. Refreshing drinks and delicious snacks and meals are available at Buster’s throughout the day; drink straight from a coconut or try the fresh conch salad for the best local flavors.

Abaco-Club---Young-Woman-SnorkelingThe Abaco Club’s waterfront is one of the main gathering places in the resort. Sooner or later, almost everyone shows up for a refreshing dip in the warm waters or a stroll at sunset along the beach. And don’t miss the Wednesday evening beach barbecue at Buster’s, complete with live local music, a campfire in the sand and s’mores for kids of all ages.

Beyond the beach, The Abaco Club offers plenty of activities for its guests and members. You’ll find an authentic, Scottish links-style 18-hole golf course, designed by Donald Steel and Tom Mackenzie, which winds its way along the beach and up to the rocky cliffs overlooking the crashing waves of the open Atlantic Ocean. The Abaco islands are world famous as favored fishing grounds for anglers: offering bonefishing on the fly in the sandy shallows; angling for grouper, snapper or wahoo along the offshore reefs; or going into the deep blue waters a mere 10-minutes from shore in search of the big pelagic species like marlin, sailfish and tuna. The Club’s full-service spa is world-class and the Cliff House restaurant overlooking the entire resort fulfills every gastronome’s desires.

Scott's-Beach-ATaking the time to explore the Abaco Islands is another adventure that’s always rewarding. Nearby Hope Town is a stroller’s delight, with shops, cafes, galleries and restaurants, and close to the resort is the historic village of Cherokee—as well as Little Harbour, a picture-perfect protected harbor for boaters and home to the popular Pete’s Pub.

Like the beach at the Abaco Club, the atmosphere in the Abacos is relaxing, peaceful and renewing.
