Clynelish Distillery

Clynelish Distillery is located on the East coast of Sutherland, around one hour north of Inverness on the scenic North Coast 500 route. With beautiful views of the North Sea and the hills to the north – where the Clynemilton burn runs over seams of gold in the rock. With this water, Clynelish distillery produces a fruity, waxy, slightly smoky, sea-spicy single malt.
The original Clynelish was established in 1819 by the Marquess of Stafford to create a market for the barley produced on his lands. Across the road is the Clynelish we know today, which was built in 1968 to make room for the larger, more modern neighbour. Old Clynelish lived on as Brora for a time, before closing in the early 80s.
