The Wild Atlantic Way…

From the wind-whipped tip of Malin Head to the safe haven of Kinsale Harbour, wrap yourself in the wilderness of the west coast of Ireland on the world’s longest defined coastal touring route.

The Wild Atlantic Way is a sensational journey of soaring cliffs, buzzing towns, hidden beaches and epic bays. So whether you drive it from end-to-end, or dip into it as the mood strikes, it’s going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

In this particular experience, the Southern Peninsulas are some that take in both the Dingle Peninsula and the Ring of Kerry, both truly spectacular coastal routes that make up a small part of the Wild Atlantic Way.

Foaming seas, staggering cliffs, ancient constructs – experience the awe-inspiring views of the Southern Peninsulas between Tralee and Ballydehob.

Strike out from Tralee, and discover five impeccable peninsulas – Dingle, Iveragh, Beara, Sheep and Mizen – each with its own quirky identity. From the ancient and ethereal beauty of the Ring of Kerry, to the roaring seas of Mizen Head in Cork, experience that edge-of-the-world feeling along this untamed stretch of coastline.

To make this experience more special, we recommend that you are chauffeured by your native driver who will provide you with all of the historical references mixed in with a joke or sing song, all of what you’d expect makes up the personality of the Irish.

Touring options will depend on your group size, ranging from Mercedes sedan vehicles to 8 passenger Mercedes Sprinter custom coaches with captains chairs and tables. If your group is larger then we can scale up where needed, but one thing is consistent, you will be traveling in comfort and in style allowing you to not miss the incredible scenery along this coastal journey!

Itinerary

Day1
Sunday
  • Arrive into Shannon International Airport, Ireland (SNN)
  • Upon arrival you will be met by your chauffeur who will be with you throughout your stay in Ireland. No doubt, you will become “fast friends” as he shows you this section of the Wild Atlantic Way through his eyes, the eyes of a native Irishman!
  • Once you have collected your bags and you are settled into your car, you will transfer to the award winning Moy House, that sits just outside the town of Lahinch. The view overlooks the Atlantic but view aside, people stay here because of the food. A bonus for your two night stay.
  • Settle in, adjust to the time difference and relax. Take a walk on the grounds and take in that fresh Irish salt air!
  • Dinner in the House.
  • Hotel – Moy House
Day2
Monday

Journey to the centre of the earth – almost – then emerge to roar at the impeccably stunning Cliffs of Moher.

  • After breakfast, you are in for your first true taste of what the Wild Atlantic Way offers and it starts at the Cliffs of Moher!  Upon arrival, you will head to the viewing areas high above the Cliffs but you can’t visit this part of the world without going underground – at least for a little while. Deep down in the Aillwee Cave nestled into a limestone terraced mountainside, you can seek out fossils, explore beautiful caverns and wander through the chasms and bridges carved through the limestone over millions of years. Don’t want to go below ground? Talk a Hawk Walk with a feathered friend at the Burren Birds of Prey Center.
  • After your visit of the Cliffs, you will head to Doolin, where you can step into a pub at any time of the day for a bite of lunch. Not to mention, it is one of the best places in Ireland to catch some traditional music.
  • After returning back to Moy House in time for relaxing before dinner again in the House.  No doubt that you will be wanting to try what you missed the night before!
Day3
Tuesday
  • Start from Tralee, and seek out Dingle amongst the immaculate beaches and craggy cliffs of the Dingle Peninsula.
  • After a hearty Irish Breakfast, you will check out and head south toward Tralee. On the northern neck of the Dingle Peninsula, Tralee is everything you imagine a thriving country town to be. But it also includes the eye catching Blennerville Windmill. It was at this port that people bade farewell to Ireland during the Great Famine, voyaging to the New World in the mid-19th century.
  • From there, you will head out to explore the sights of the Dingle Peninsula to take in the wonderment of this exposed body of land. It is so stunning that George Lucas decided to choose it for one of his latest movies of the Star Wars series. The town of Dingle itself is a bustling stop for visitors where it is filled with little shops, restaurants and pubs.
  • After a nice lunch, you will continue your journey around the Peninsula, counter clock-wise where you will navigate steep cliff edges while being rewarded with stunning views. You will even see Skellig Michael (Skellig Islands )off in the southwest distance before passing Inch Beach on the way off of the Peninsula.
  • The end of the road today will take you towards Killarney before checking into you next hotel, the award winning Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa.
  • Hotel – Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa
Day4
Wednesday

Wind your way along the sea-weathered Iveragh Peninsula, through tiny villages, past pretty harbours and simply stunning scenery.

  • After a full Irish Breakfast, set out to what is known as the Ring of Kerry, or the Iveragh Peninsula. This 111 coastal route will again, leave you ooohing and ahhhhing with absolutely breathtaking scenic views. Gaze out from the coast, and take in the Skelligs, or the Stars in the Ocean sitting crouched in the roaring ocean. Most recently called home by Luke Skywalker (it was a key filming location for Star Wars: The Force Awakens) these islands were first occupied in the 6th century by monks who sought solitude and peace. The mind boggles at the challenges they must have faced, living in this incredible location. If you’re lucky enough to get to visit, climb the steep stone steps to the summit, where stark beehive huts cling to the rock and an overwhelming sense of calm prevails. If a climb on the island is not for you, a boat ride around the islands is also available (we can arrange that).
  • The perfect spot for a stop off for lunch is in the town of Waterville.   Boasting miles of sandy beaches and views out into the glittering ocean. Famed as Charlie Chaplin’s favorite retreat, tales are told to this day of his fly-fishing skills (or rather, lack of them).
  • After lunch, you will continue your journey back to Killareny.
  • Arrive back at the hotel and head into the town for dinner. Always bustling with live music and good craic (Irish for a good time).
  • Hotel – Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa
Day5
Thursday

As you arrive on the Beara Peninsula, and in the mighty County Cork, prepare for a magical journey where every step comes with an ancient tale.

  • After your breakfast, you will check out of your hotel and continue following the Wild Atlantic Way south into the mighty County of Cork!  Along the way, you will head past Sheep’s Head, the smallest of the five peninsulas on this route making your way out to Mizen Head. To get there, you must cross the Mizen Head Bridge. The foaming waters below have often been described as hypnotic, so keep your wits about you! Climb to the signal station for unparalleled views of where land gives way to the rolling sea. Keep your eye out for Fastnet Rock, known as Ireland’s Teardrop, keeping a lonely watch amongst the waves. It was the last bit of Ireland emigrants saw before heading to the New World. Eventually you will arrive in the the harbor town of Kinsale, known as Ireland’s Gourmet Capital thanks in part to its culinary scene of local farm to table produce and seaside delights freshly caught from the cold Atlantic!
  • Check in to the Trident Hotel Kinsale, for your final two night in Ireland.
Day6
Friday

After sampling some of the culinary delights of Kinsale, set your sights further west and discover the Old Head of Kinsale. This is what “picture moments” are made of…

  • After breakfast and a relaxing morning, head out for your final day of exploration. Simply put, the Old Head of Kinsale in Country Cork is one of Ireland’s most spectacular coastal areas. This large promontory juts out into the Atlantic Ocean, rising hundreds of feet above the water with towering sea cliffs. On this stretch of coastal bliss, it feels like you’ve left the world behind. It’s just you and the ocean.
  • Stretch Your Legs… The best way to explore the Old Head is by foot. The Old Head of Kinsale Loop is a gentle 3.7 mile walk that takes in a circular route around the head. The dramatic cliffs and lush headland speckled with bursts of white and yellow flowers aren’t the only gems here. If you are a golfer, then it might be a good idea to inquire about playing the Old Head Golf Links, arguably one of the most scenic courses in the world!
  • After your day, head back to town and let us arrange closing out this amazing journey with one of Kinsale’s top culinary experiences…there are many to choose from!
  • Hotel – Trident Hotel Kinsale
Day7
Saturday
  • After breakfast, check out and transfer to the airport. Or, if this six night journey leave you wanting more, then continue onward as  there is still so much more to see!
