Since its establishment in 1989, Rovos Rail has earned an international reputation for its truly world class travel experiences. Bespoke train safaris through the heart of Africa combine magnificent scenery with the glamour and excitement of the golden age of leisure travel. In a series of journeys lasting from 48 hours to 15 days, Rovos Rail links some of the subcontinent’s greatest destinations.

The beautifully rebuilt trains carry a maximum of 72 passengers in 36 superbly appointed suites and are also available for charter, while the Events Train caters for up to 250 guests and is suitable for daytime journeys.

  • 12:00 – Depart Rovos rail Station in Capital Park, Pretoria
    • Guests may freshen up in their suites before meeting fellow passengers in the lounge car or rear observation car.
  • 1:00 – Lunch is served in the dining cars.
  • 4:30 – Tea in the lounge and observation cars.
  • 7:30 – Dinner en route to Rustenburg.
  • Dress: Formal

  • 6:00 – Breakfast is served until departure.
  • 7:45 – Transfer to Sun City.
  • 9:00 – Game drive in Pilanesberg Reserve.
  • 12:00 – Lunch with the golfers.
  • 1:00 – After at leisure at Sun City’s Palace of the Lost City.
  • 5:30 – Return to the train.
  • 8:00 – Dinner is served in the dining cars en route to Heidelberg.
  • Dress: Formal

  • Day at leisure on the train. All meals enjoyed on board en route to Ladysmith and Estcourt.
  • Dress: “African” Theme or Smart Casual

  • 6:00 – Breakfast is served in the dining cars until departure.
  • 9:00 – Transfer (60 minutes) to Spion Kop Lodge for a battlefields tour and light refreshments before moving to Spion Kop hill to finish this historic story.
  • 1:00 – Return to the lodge for lunch.
  • 2:00 Afternoon game drive OR relax at the lodge.
  • 4:00 – Return to the train.
  • 7:30 – Dinner is served in the dining cars en route to Durban.
  • Dress: Formal

  • Please give your passports to the Train Manager or Gift Shop Hostess. They will be returned to you before the end of the trip.
  • 5:00 – Breakfast is served until departure.
  • 9:00 – Disembark for a Durban city tour, a visit to the botanical garden and lunch.
  • 2:00 – Afternoon at leisure OR return to the train.
  • 3:30 – Return to the train.
  • 4:00 – The train departs Durban.
  • 4:30 – Tea in the lounge and observation cars.
  • 7:30 – Dinner is served in the dining cars en route to Hluhluwe.
  • Dress: Formal

  • 5:00 – Continental breakfast is served until departure.
  • 6:00 – Transfer to Hluhluwe-Imfolozi.
  • 6:45 – Board game vehicles for a game drive.
  • 9:00 – Tea break at Hilltop Camp.
  • 10:30 – Return to the train.
  • 12:00 – Lunch is served in the dining cars en route to Golela for border formalities with Swaziland.
  • 4:30 – Tea is served in the lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train.
  • 7:30 – Dinner is served en route to Mpaka.
  • Dress: Formal

  • 6:00 – Breakfast is served until departure.
  • 7:00 – Transfer to Mkhaya Reserve.
  • 8:00 – Board game vehicles for a game drive.
  • 10:00 – Transfer (75 minutes) to Swazi Candles.
  • 12:15 – Lunch and craft/curio shopping.
  • 1:30 – Transfer (15 minutes) to Royal Swazi to join the golfers OR return to the train (75 minutes)
  • 4:30 – Tea is served in the lounge and observation car.
  • 6:00 – Depart for Komatipoort, South Africa.
  • 7:30 – Dinner is served in the dining cars.
  • Dress: Formal

  • Please ensure you have your passport for the Kruger National Park entrance formalities.
  • 6:00 – Breakfast is served until departure.
  • 8:00 – Board game vehicles for a game drive in the Kruger National Park with a tea break en route.
  • 1:00 – Lunch with an opportunity for curio shopping.
  • 2:30 – Return to the train.
  • 4:30 – Tea in the lounge and observation cars.
  • 7:30 – Dinner is served.
  • Dress: “1920s” Theme / Smart Casual

  • Please ensure you have obtained your passports from the Train Manager or Gift Shop Hostess before departing the train.
  • 7:00 – Breakfast is served in the dining cars.
